Château de Monségur
The ‘Château de Monségur’ in the French Pyrenees, as seen in the distance from high up on the ‘plateau de Sault’ (1300m above sea level) which is located partly in the Aude region and partly in the Ariège.
Monségur was one of the last pockets of cathar resistance against the armada of the French king and the Catholic Church. The story goes that some Cathars managed to escape at night and to carry the legendary Cathar treasure to the mythic village of Rennes-le-Château. There is, however, no physical evidence of this event and nobody knows anything for sure about the real nature of the treasure.
Except for Abbé Saunière. 😊
