Paul Eluard/Poésies

Paul Eluard/Poésies 1913-1926

Reflets

La terre, c’est la moitié de tout,

Enterré, c’est l’autre moitié,

Le surplace des étoiles,

Leur lendemain.

(Gallimard, 1968, 1971)

Another intruiging poem by Paul Eluard, who was one of the great French poets in the Surrealist wave that swept Western Europe after the demise of Dada and Futurism.

I’m adding a (tentative) translation here, for your convenience, over there, over the hills and the seas and far away in the USA.☺️

Reflections

The land, it is half of everything,

Buried, is the other half,

The downtime of the stars,

Their tomorrows.
